More than £15,000 has been raised for Guildford Cathedral in memory of its bishop, Rt Rev Andrew Watson. 

Bishop Andrew died aged 64 in March, less than a month after receiving a terminal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. 

The Bishop of Guildford asked for donations to be made to the Cathedral, in lieu of flowers at his funeral. 

Very Rev Bob Cooper, Dean of Guildford Cathedral and the team have thanked those who have made a donation so far, some of which has been spent on new contactless donation terminals to make it easier for worshippers and visitors to support the ministry. 

“We hope you agree that it is a fitting tribute that Bishop Andrew’s wishes are helping others follow his generous example. This legacy reflects Bishop Andrew's commitment to the life of the Cathedral and the generosity he inspired in those around him. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed in his memory”, a post from Guildford Cathedral on Facebook said. 

Bishop Andrew has been remembered as “a shepherd, a servant, and a dear friend” by Dean Bob, but above all else “a man of the gospel”.
