Organist recognised in Scottish parliament for 60 years of playing

by Premier Journalist

A fife organist has been recognised in the Scottish Parliament for 60 years of serving the church.

Ian Ogilvie of Linktown Church in Kirkcaldy was acclaimed by cross-party MSPs who thanked him for his years of musical service.

A retired accountant, Mr Ogilvie started taking organ lessons at Dunfermline Abbey aged 17 in 1963.

Prior to his current role at Linktown Church, Mr Ogilive served at four other churches as an organist and choirmaster.

His musical highlights have also included performing for BBC radio and playing the organ in Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Session clerk at Linktown Church Stuart Milne told the church of Scotland that the congregation is very proud.

"I have known Ian for a long time and music has been his life even though it was not his profession," he added.

"He will fall into anything we want and do whatever he can to help out.

"Even though Ian enjoys playing the organ so much, it is quite a commitment to be involved in the church every Sunday morning on top of all the other things he does."

As well as playing the organ, Mr Ogilvie also runs the Linktown Church webpage.
