Nigel Farage has announced that he has stopped attending church, attributing his decision to the Church of England's "surrender" to the "woke agenda".
During a GB News interview on Monday Farage, known for his political career and controversial opinions, expressed his deep-rooted connection to the Church of England, highlighting his own christening and confirmation within the faith, as well as his family's longstanding adherence.
He said: “I used to believe in it. I used to attend".
Despite historically engaging with the Church and attending services regularly throughout the year, he now finds it "impossible" to continue.
"I won’t go to my local church; I won’t go,” he said. "It is hopeless. They’ve given up; they’ve surrendered".
Farage criticised what he perceives as the church's leadership being out of touch with reality.Without naming anyone directly, he speculated, "... and her name sums it up. I don’t know her personally, but I’ll have a bet she’s upper middle class, completely detached from reality".
In remakes made to C of E’s General Synod, The Church of England’s first black female bishop said that “woke” should not be used as a negative term.
She continued: “We must remain awake to the reality that the church’s commitment to racial justice is not the church attempting to follow the world’s direction of travel regarding inclusion, equality and diversity, but instead it is a given. It comes from a deep desire to follow the lead of Christ".
