The pastor of the church Nancy Guthrie attends has asked the congregation to keep praying for her safe return, as the search to find her continues.
Authorities believe Guthrie may have been kidnapped, having been reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on 1st February when she did not turn up for church.
Rev Dr John Tittle, pastor at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, led prayers for the 84-year-old to feel their love.
“We are seeking to just honor the family’s privacy and their desires. It was communicated to me, ‘pray.’ We’re going to keep praying through this horrific ordeal,” he said.
Tittle asked for the authorities to be guided in their search, and for the hearts of “those who are responsible” to be softened so they would do what is “humane and right”, as reported by NBC News.
His sermon focused on forgiveness: “When we find ourselves heartbroken by the inhumanity and the evil that has been done to Nancy and her family, what do we do?”
He described forgiveness as "essential for our survival” and healing “hatred and bitterness”.
Her daughter Savannah Guthrie, a popular television anchor, thanked people for their prayers from around the world.
She described her mother as “a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light.”
Police are investigating her disappearance as a possible abduction, with a ransom note allegedly being found.
Blood found on the porch outside her house matched her DNA.
No suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
