Louisiana preacher banned from preaching in Edinburgh

by Cara Bentley

A Christian conference due to have Larry Stockstill preach will no longer have their keynote speaker unless they change venue.

Larry Stockstill is a preacher, author and pastors' mentor from Louisiana who also runs the Surge Project - a church planting network. He was due to speak at the Surge Conference in June 2020, which aims to equip the church to grow, alongside head of the Evangelical Alliance Gavin Calver.

Stockstill preaches at his son's church, Bethany Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

According to the Times, he has described same-sex relationships as "offensive", "repulsive" and "deeply grievous."

He is due to be speaking on 'The Purpose and Privilege of Pastoring.'

Edinburgh city council confirmed it had cancelled the event after complaints were received.

The event is organised by Destiny Ministries and, specifically, Destiny Church Glasgow.

Previously, the Church of Scotland banned the group from hiring buildings of theirs in 2018, after it used St Cuthbert’s church in Edinburgh.
