Liberty University denies Lil Nas X enrolled to do Biblical studies

by Kelly Valencia

A prominent U.S. evangelical Christian university has refuted allegations that the famous singer Lil Nas X is set to commence a course in biblical studies at the institution.

Earlier this week, the singer shared an acceptance letter for a 'Dual Concentration in Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies,' scheduled to start in the fall of 2024.

The letter unveiled on X, formerly Twitter, bore the signature of the institution's former president, Jerry Falwell Sr., and prominently featured the university's logo. However, Liberty University contradicted the singer's assertions in a statement to the Christian Post.

The spokesperson affirmed that the university "did not issue the 'acceptance letter' posted yesterday on social media by Montero Hill, and we have no record of Montero Hill applying to the university."

The letter's authenticity had already triggered scepticism among certain X users. They noted that it bore the signature of Jerry Falwell Sr., the founder of the university who passed away in 2007. Some users further distinguished between him and his son, Jerry Falwell Jr., who took on the presidency at Liberty University after his father's death. However, Jerry Falwell Jr. resigned in 2020 amidst allegations of a sex scandal.

This is the latest example of controversy sparked by the singer among Christians as he continues promoting his latest single 'J Christ,' set to be released on Friday. The artist has previously faced criticism for posting a photo of him being lifted on a cross and a video where he humorously engages in the Lord's Supper in church while dressed as Jesus.

This incident is the most recent in a series of controversies ignited by the singer within Christian communities as he intensifies promotion for his upcoming single, 'J Christ,' scheduled for release on Friday.
