Lego to debut Notre Dame Cathedral set

by Lydia Davies

Lego has surprised its enthusiasts by announcing the release of a Notre Dame Cathedral set, making it one of the largest sets ever released in the Lego Architecture line.

The Denmark-based billion-dollar company does not commonly release sets with religious connotations; however, similar “exceptions” were likely made in 2019 with the release of the Taj Mahal set.

The iconic French landmark will join sets such as the Himeji Castle, the Taj Mahal, and the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This announcement comes after the devastating fire that engulfed the cathedral in April 2019, sparking a global outpouring of support and donations for its restoration.

The Notre Dame Cathedral holds immense significance for Christians worldwide, and this Lego set could serve as a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of faith and resilience.

Although no official images of the set have yet been released, the design is expected to capture the architectural beauty and details that make Notre Dame a symbol of Christian heritage.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this Lego set contributes to the ongoing restoration efforts.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go towards the restoration fund.

The set, which will be made up of over 4,000 bricks, will retail for $229.99 (approx. £256.61). Falcon Bricks, a Lego news website, says it is set to hit the shelves on 1st June 2024.
