King may skip Easter message

by Premier Journalist

It's been reported King Charles will not be issuing an Easter address this year.

It’s understood Buckingham Palace does not release one annually, unlike the traditional Christmas broadcast, and Queen Elizabeth the Second only did so occasionally.

Last year, King Charles marked the occasion with a Maundy Thursday message. This year, he instead attended a service in North Wales with the Queen.

Speaking to Sky News, the Archbishop of Westminster, Most Rev Richard Moth, said he thinks the King may have skipped his Easter message this year simply because of a busy diary.

"The King has his programme. He gave Maundy money recently. He’s able to do what he’s able to do. Diaries are difficult for people," he said.

"I wouldn’t read too much into that myself. We know of the King’s Christian faith. He’s spoken to us of that on many occasions, and he will be celebrating these days of Holy Week and Easter, and I’m quite sure, praying for everybody in the country at this time.

The decision has sparked discussion online, with some questioning the King's role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
