Jeb Bush attacks Obama's religious freedom record

Mr Bush, brother of George, will use a commencement address at Liberty University, to speak about his Christian faith and its importance in America.

He'll criticise President Obama's administration for taking "an aggressive stance against" religious freedom.

It's thought the speech will be a bid to win support from Evangelical voters in key states like Iowa and South Carolina as he battles for the Republican nomination to be president.

"What should be easy calls, in favour of religious freedom, have instead become an aggressive stance against it," he'll say.

"Somebody here is being small-minded and intolerant, and it sure isn't the nuns, ministers, laymen and women who ask only to live and practice their faith.

"Federal authorities are demanding obedience, in complete disregard of religious conscience, and in a free society, the answer is no."

Mr Bush is a convert to Roman Catholicism and is up against Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Scott Walker.

"Whatever the need, the affliction, or the injustice, there is no more powerful or liberating influence on this earth than the Christian conscience in action," he'll say.
