Iranian Christians ready to 'pay the price'

The man - who can't be named for security reasons - has been describing what life is like for believers in Iran.

He's says persecution is an everyday reality and it comes in different forms.

"Being a Christian in Iran is difficult because you have to pay a price," he said. "The first place you have to play is in society, you will lose lots of possibilities to work.

"In every form in Iran you have to write your religion and if you write Christian you are left out of opportunities to work, you want have access to banking services.

"Despite what I call soft persecution people keep sharing the gospel."

Christianity isn't banned in Iran but it is illegal to convert from Islam.

The church leader, who works with religious freedom group Christian Solidarity Worldwide and is on the international council of the Church of Iran, says this is where the persecution moves up a level.

"A lot of people have been arrested in Iran and killed since the revolution.

"It is the hard persecution. Even in spite of that - Christians in Iran are ready to pay the price."
