The man, who speaks in a Scottish accent, interrupted the service at Grace Community Church, in California, last week claiming the preacher had "grieved the Holy Spirit".
Before being ushered off stage, he said: "Your doctrine of cessationism is an error. He has been grieved John MacArthur.
"I've been sent to tell you that...you don't believe in prophets - you're looking at one.
"God have mercy on you and teach you the truth."
Following the incident, the 76 year old preacher continued his sermon to the hundreds gathered suggesting the security team would handle the intruder with gentleness.
Mr MacArthur, while authoring over 150 books and being described as one of the most influential preachers of his time, is deemed controversial by some - mainly because of his teaching on cessationism.
He believes that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing ended at the time of the deaths of Jesus' disciples.
