Brentford and Brazilian striker Igor Thiago 'its what Jesus does' as he breaks Premier League record

by Premier Journalist

Brentford and Brazilian striker Igor Thiago has become the latest player to express his Christian faith online.

The 24-year-old scored twice in a 3-0 win at home to Sunderland at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday night and in the process becoming the Premier League’s top Brazilian goal scorer with 17 games to spare.

Thiago had equalled the record earlier in the match, scoring 15 in record time, this before it become 16 times in just 21 outings.

This comes just three days after scoring a hat-trick in an impressive 4-1 win against Everton.

But it has been the reaction to his success that has drawn the eye, with the striker commenting on Brentford’s Instagram post captioned ‘It’s what he does!’ with ‘This is what Jesus does.’

There has been no shortage in Premier League players giving over their success to Jesus through social media with Chelsea’s Estevao, Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze and now Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo all talking about their faith.

Thiago’s record-breaking season is sensational in itself but the platform in which he is now spreading his faith has made his achievements even more commendable.

Ballers in God, a social media channel, have been highlighting the rapid increase in footballers promoting their faith in God through football.

With players having a huge reach on social media as well as a platform to express their faith on the pitch, it is further fuelling the not so ‘Quiet revival’ across churches up and down the country.

Igor Thiago’s stunning goal scoring form could yet still continue with nearly half the season still to play, as he now will be aiming to win the golden boot.

But for faith in football, it couldn’t be in a safer pair of boots as more and more professional athletes are speaking out on how their success should be dedicated to Jesus.
