A black female pastor in the US has made headlines after removing her wig mid-sermon, prompting others to do the same.
Sarah Jakes Roberts was in the middle of preaching a sermon about remaining focused on God’s purpose for your life, to women gathered at the Potter’s House Church in Dallas, Texas.
As she began to talk about the importance women place on their looks, despite it being irrelevant to their God-given calling, Pastor Sarah’s wig began to come off. Instead of fixing it or ignoring the issue, she pulled the wig off in front of the congregation.
Taking to Instagram, she said: “I’ve always enjoyed getting dressed up and looking my best. I also have worked really hard to separate my worth and identity from my appearance. I can be full glam one day and fresh hyperpigmented face the next.”
She continued: “Today I was preaching and I could feel my wig slipping. My message was more important to me than maintaining my appearance so I took it off, locked in, and kept preaching.
“What moved me most was seeing how many women joined me in getting courageously vulnerable, real and free. Literally wigs coming off everywhere.”
