Hundreds attend interfaith march against religious extremism

by Desmond Busteed

Organisers estimate more than 400 "people of all faiths" marched from Regent's Park Mosque to the Central Synagogue in Great Portland Street to Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

The event, organised by the interfaith Coexist Foundation was initiated in response to the recent spate of terror attacks carried out across the globe in the name of religion.

Michael Wakelin, director of Coexist Programmes told Premier's 'News Hour' he was marching alongside Christians, Muslims and Jews in defiance against extremism, he said: "People of all faiths are here, hopefully people of no faith; but people who want to stand in solidarity with faithful people who believe that the religious agenda shouldn't be high jacked by extremists."

"Above our religions, ethnicities, cultures, social and financial standings is our common humanity and respect for life & care for God's creation," added Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra, Assistant Secretary General, The Muslim Council of Britain.
