Communities Minister Lord Bourne said he wanted to highlight the contribution they make the the country and celebrate the architectural and religious heritage they provide the nation.
He will started his tour at Bradford Cathedral on October 27th.
The visits are designed to highlight the use of cathedrals for daily worship but also as places for social support, community and interfaith engagements.
Speaking following a meeting with Jerry Lepine, Dean of Bradford Cathedral, Communities Minister Lord Bourne said: "From Bradford to Bristol, each of the nation's cathedrals is unique and offers each of us a chance to experience our rich heritage first hand.
"Because of this I want to champion the role of cathedrals at the heart of our diverse cities, communities and faiths over the next year.
"I hope that communities around the England join me in learning more about our beautiful cathedrals and help preserve them for future generations."
