Gospel star James Fortune 'sore but alive' after car crash

Writing to his followers on the social media website Instagram, James Fortune, said: "Family, I'm sore but I'm alive! Jesus spared my life."

"Thank you so much for your prayers, love and support. I'm so grateful! I'll be back soon. Let's all love and forgive. Tomorrow is not promised! God bless you all!"

A statement previously posted online on the webpage told fans he was involved in a collision while on his way to church.

It said: "Please pray for our brother James Fortune who on his way to church tonight was hit by a drunk driver in a four car accident.

"God spared his life and he is responsive. Pray for a speedy recovery. God Bless You and thanks for the prayers!"

Instagram user plantsoul_21 said in a message to the two-time Grammy award-nominated singer: "My prayers goes to you James Fortune.

"I pray that God places his hands on you for a speedy recovery. You're my favorite gospel singer."

Meanwhile, Instagram user to_thyself_be_true said: "You are coming out! May God heal you and strength you!

"The devil thought he had you... My God Is faithful! Come on James we need you! Blessing my Brother!!!!"

James Fortune is a three-time Stellar Award winner, 9 time ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) award-winning songwriter and the president of his own label, FIYA World Music, which is based in Houston.

It remains unclear when and where the alleged car crash happened, and how police have been responding.
