Gospel singer shot in Brazil was 'in wrong place at wrong time'

by Donna Birrell

A missionary worker has been wounded after being accidentally shot at a fair in Brazil.

49 year old Keyla Silva, who is also a gospel singer, was paying for an item at a kiosk when the gunman missed his intended target.

The man had already shot and killed a man when he turned his gun on the victim's girlfriend but caught Mrs Silva instead.

She's said to be in a stable condition in hospital in the central Brazilian city of Goiania.

Mrs Silva's husband, Max Costa, told Brazilian news outlet G1 that his wife had been "in the wrong place at the wrong time. She went to buy a pastry for my mother-in-law and, when she went to pay, a man arrived and shot a young man who was behind her."

Three people were questioned following the incident, but the gunman hasn't yet been caught.
