Fresh bid to promote "good pastoral care" for people experiencing same-sex attraction

Up to 200 people attended a conference St Michael's Church in London's Chester Square on Saturday where they also explored how the wider Church can "stick to authentically biblical teaching" around the issue.

The meeting was arranged by two Christian organisations who reach out to Christians facing same-sex attractions, True Freedom Trust and Living Out.

Director of True Freedom Trust, Jonathan Berry told Premier: "[We want] to teach, encourage and worship together. [We want to] really help people hold to that orthodox, Biblical view of sexuality but also help people enjoy life to the full.

"We believe that Jesus came so we could have life and have it to the full.

"We are going to be thinking about how churches can be truly, Biblically inclusive. That is, welcoming people who experience same-sex attraction but helping them hold to Biblical truth.

"We are not meant to take our sexual ethics from the culture. We're meant to take them from the Bible. We believe that, actually, the Gospel is really good news for people who might identify themselve as gay.

"I, myself, was in a same-sex relationship for seven years before I came to faith, aged 24."

The event was hailed as organiser trying "to equip and encourage Christians facing same-sex temptations to seek satisfaction in and through our relationship with Jesus Christ."

The theme is "Satisfaction Guaranteed", which is also the name of True Freedom Trust Director Jonathan Berry's new book, which was launched at the conference.
