Christian singer-songwriter Forrest Frank has divided social media opinion over his reaction to the US midterm election results.
Frank, known for Christian Billboard chart-topping songs including ‘Your Way’s Better’, took to Instagram to warn, “don’t play around with God’s children” after Democrats swept to victory in races across the country.
He said it was “important to speak up” despite the fact he is “probably going to lose so many” of his seven million followers on the platform.
Frank shared posts he suggested were from Democrats celebrating their wins: “we’re gonna invent new genders you haven’t even imagined yet”, “we are gonna trans your kids so bad”, and another suggesting the user would “keep a tab open” at an abortion clinic.
The artist said: “You don’t want to mess around with this. Do not mess around with God. Do not mess around with the family... If we lose the family, we lose everything.”
He read from the last verse in the Old Testament: “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to the fathers. Otherwise, I will destroy the land” (Malachi 4:6).
Frank urged Christians to “be activated: pray, discern, read your Word, hold your family tight, lead your family. Let’s be the soldiers that we signed up to be for the kingdom.” He ended with encouragement that “God is the victor” regardless of politics.
His video drew support from some followers. Pro-life advocacy group Live Action wrote: “AMEN thank you for being a voice for life.” Josh Howerton, senior pastor at Texan megachurch Lakepointe, added: “Stand firm. Well done.”
A number of users suggested the posts Frank referred to were troll comments.
Theologian Christopher Haylett wrote: “Bro, if you don't see how those were all sarcastic satirical responses to Republican points of attack... I don't know what to tell you.”
Others questioned why Frank had chosen this moment for political commentary. One said: “Protect the family? You mean like the ones ripped apart by ICE [immigration enforcement]? Or the ones being massacred in the Middle East?”
Frank’s video has been viewed more than 20 million times and received over 1.4 million likes.
