Former Co-op Bank chairman and Methodist minister Paul Flowers charged over drug offences

Former Co-op Bank boss Paul Flowers has been charged with drugs offences - including possessing cocaine and crystal meth.

He stepped down as its chairman last year following claims of illegal drug use and inappropriate expenses payments.

He's due in court in Leeds on the 7th of May.

Mr Flowers described the waiting media as "vultures" when he arrived to answer bail.

Afterwards his solicitor Andy Hollas made a statement, saying: "I think it's been self-evident that he has been hounded for some six months by certain elements of the press.  However, I'm not prepared to go any further into that at the moment.

Mr Flowers had assured me - and through me I'm instructing you - that we'll make a full statement after his appearance in Leeds Magistrates' Court."

Substantial progress has been made today, the police inquiries and the investigation are at an end."

He has instructed me to tell you that a full statement will be made after his appearance at court.  But obviously, on this occasion, I'm not prepared to go into any further details."
