Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi took to the pitch for the F.A. Community Shield against Liverpool wearing custom blacked-out football boots inscribed with two Bible verses: Isaiah 54:17 and Exodus 14:14.

The inscriptions reference passages that speak of God’s protection and deliverance, with Isaiah 54:17 declaring: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper”, and Exodus 14:14 stating: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

This football shoe customisation has been praised by Christians online.

One X user wrote: "Great awesome scriptures!" while another praised his openness, saying: "I like celebrities who are not ashamed of their faith."

FA Cup holders Crystal Palace won this year's Community Shield after beating Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2 on penalties at Wembley Stadium.
