Dyslexia Awareness Week marked with launch of new Bible books

Mark's Gospel and Psalms have both been produced in dyslexia-friendly versions.

The Bible is particularly difficult for dyslexia sufferers because it has thin paper which often shows words on both sides plus it is usually printed in small font.

The new books use thick, cream paper, a large point size with a simple Sans Serif typeface and one column of text per page.

One in ten people in Briton have dyslexia, which can affect reading and writing.

Bill Allen from the Bible Society suffers himself and told Premier of the huge resource these books can become to the Church.

He told Premier: "One of the things that families have always done over the years is read Bible stories to their kids.

"If you're dyslexic you're very unlikely to want to do that which means we've lost that resource for the church of the Bible stories that most kids are brought up on, being read to them because the parent can't read it very well.

"Not only is it affecting their individual spiritual life in terms of how much they can take time to read the Bible or how much they avoid it, but equally it's affecting the next generation at the same time."
