Derby Cathedral hosts climate change debate: "The Church can be a force for good"

by Hannah Tooley

Lord Deben, the Independent Chair on Climate Change is hosting the conference, which will be attended by church leaders as well as members of the public.

Dr Alex Rock, Cathedral Development Officer at Derby Cathedral told Premier the Church and science can work together: It's very, very important for the Cathedral and for the Church to realise that it can be a force for good when it comes to climate change."

He said that all sides of the debate will be represented: "We're expecting a lively debate, we are keen for attendees to come from both sides of the fence and for the subject to be really actively debated."

Dr Alex Rock admitted that the 2015 global Paris conference on climate change is going to be a challenge, but that it is a real possibility for change: "I think that the best thing that can come out of the Paris summit is a consensus and a great move towards change for the better, for the environment and an acknowledgement something needs to be done, with the agreement of everyone around the table."
