Actor Denzel Washington has spoken up about Will Smith’s actions, saying the only answer is prayer.
Last Sunday the actor Mr Smith hit fellow actor Chris Rock at the Oscars Ceremony, after Mr Rock made a joke about his wife.
During the ceremony, after the incident on stage, Mr Washington spoke to Mr Smith giving him advice.
Mr Washington revealed some of this reasoning behind why he chose to talk to Mr Smith whilst appearing on a panel at pastor T.D, Jakes’ annual International Leadership Summit yesterday.
Mr Washington told Jakes: "I don't wanna say what we talked about, but there but for the grace of God go any of us.
"Who are we to condemn? I don't know all the ins and outs of this situation, but I know the only solution was prayer, the way I saw it, the way I see it."
According to Mr Washington prayers were also exchanged when he spoke to Mr Smith at the ceremony.
Whilst accepting his Oscar, Mr Smith did reveal some of what Mr Washington had said to him, he said: "At your highest moment, be careful, that's when the devil comes for you.”
Mr Washington did discuss why he had said this, speaking to Jakes he said: "There's a saying when the devil ignores you, then you know you're doing something wrong.
"The devil goes, 'Oh no leave him alone, he's my favourite.' Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it's because he's trying to do something right and for whatever reason, the devil got ahold of him that night."
It was only on Friday that Mr Smith resigned from the Oscar’s Academy stating that his actions were “shocking painful and inexcusable.”
The actor said he has "directly responded to the Academy's disciplinary hearing notice" and "will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct."
