Dan Walker reveals he missed out on 'amazing jobs' because of his faith

by Lydia Davies

TV presenter Dan Walker has admitted that his devotion to his Christian faith has cost him work, but insists he has no regrets.

The 47-year-old former BBC Breakfast and Football Focus presenter, who is the son of a pastor, is a devout Christian and refuses to work on Sundays.

This has led to the father-of-three missing out on "amazing jobs" hosting sports and other events in the past, as he has chosen to devote the holy day to his faith and family.

Walker, who has been at Channel Five for almost two years, fronts TV series and the 5 News at 5.

He told Sorted magazine: "I've never done it to prove anybody wrong. I just need that sort of day when my family knows I am going to be there and it's a day to do something a little bit different. My sister's a nurse; she works on Sunday. Obviously, my dad's a pastor, so he used to work every Sunday.

"But it has worked for me. I know there are plenty of things that I've not been able to do over the years, amazing jobs that I've turned down, but I'm very happy with that decision.

"I've never tried to give anybody another reason not to employ me. I also make a very good cup of tea, which is important.

"That's how I got my first job in radio. I sent my CV with two tea bags stapled to the top. I said, 'You've probably got thousands of CVs for this, but nobody will make a cup of tea as well as I can. And if you invite me in for an interview, I'll also make you one.' And he did."
