'I pray for you': D-Day veteran shares heartfelt moment with Zelensky
by Lydia Davies
At the commemoration of the 80th D-Day anniversary in Normandy, France, an emotional exchange unfolded between President Volodymyr Zelensky and a D-Day veteran.
The veteran, upon meeting Zelensky, expressed his admiration, saying: “You are the savior of the people.”
Zelensky responded, “No, no – you saved Europe.”
Zelensky, who embraced the veteran and held his hand, kneeled to be at the same level as the veteran, before the WWII hero said: "I pray for you."
The heartfelt interaction between them led to a standing ovation from the audience as both insisted to each other: “You're our hero."
