Three Christian brothers have been killed in Egypt’s Minya Governate over a 70-year-old dispute.

According to International Christian Concern (ICC), six Muslim men murdered the brothers, mutilated their bodies and danced while committing the crime.

They claimed they were avenging the death of their own family member in 1952.

Youssef Youssef Youssef, Afifi Youssef Youssef and Bushra Youssef Youssef were working in an agricultural field in Ibshadat village of Mallawi district when the attack took place earlier this month.

It’s understood that the attackers were immediately arrested by police after they returned to their village saying “Allahu Akbar” or “Allah is Greater”.

They are now standing trial for the murders.

Lawyers and those familiar with the incident reported that the men knew nothing of the killing that happened when their father was younger and that the manner of the recent murders did not match those of typical revenge killings.

Some observed that the mutilating of the corpses mirrored the killings of the Islamic State, linked to religious identity.

Egypt ranks 16th in the Open Doors list of countries where Christians face the most persecution.
