Controversial rapper Eminem tops Christian Billboard chart with faith based song

by Alex Collett

Award-winning artist Eminem has topped the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for the first time in his near 30-year career for releasing a song that praises Jesus.

The new song 'Use This Gospel' hears him praising Jesus, touting scripture and denouncing Satan.

The single - in collaboration with Christian rapper Ye (Kanye West) - is a new track on D.J. Khaled's new album 'God Did'.

The rapper whose full name is Marshall Mathers III sparked a social media discussion about his personal faith when the song was released.

According to The Christian Post, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart last week but dropped down to number five this week after TobyMac released his new song 'The Goodness' featuring Blessing Offor.

Eminem's song is a remix of Ye's 'Jesus is King' first launched in 2019.

Eminem raps: "I'm holding on but I don't know if I can take it much longer; today's the day that I put all of my trust and faith in you, Father."

He also says: "So my saviour, I call on; to rescue me from these depths of despair; so these demons better step like a stair; because He is my shepherd; I'm armed with Jesus, my weapon is prayer."

Many were surprised to hear Eminem talking about having a Christian faith.

Rapzilla's editor-in-chief Justin Sarachik, a journalist that writes for Christian organisations, said: "It was shocking to see Eminem on a gospel rap track."

"What was even more surprising is that he didn't say anything controversial or blasphemous," he noted.
"He just rapped about God."
