Archbishop Justin Badi, chairman of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA), has said he is grateful to the Archbishop of Canterbury for agreeing to meet on Saturday evening.

It comes after Archbishop Justin announced on Friday that the group will offer their own “Lambeth Resolution” or “call” at the Anglican Communion Plenary session for bishops on 1st August.

The resolution will re-affirm the 1998 ‘Lambeth 1.0’ resolution that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

They will also give all bishops gathered at the Lambeth Conference an opportunity to confirm their agreement by the end of the conference

Earlier this week, a ‘Call on Human Dignity’, which serves as a motion of sorts, was altered so that bishops at Lambeth Conference would no longer have the option to re-affirm the traditional view of marriage. That came after progressive bishops complained that the call excluded those who supported LGBT rights within the Church.

On Friday the GSFA also announced that Orthodox bishops at the Lambeth Conference will abstain from receiving Holy Communion during services at Canterbury Cathedral for which same-sex partners of bishops are invited to attend. 

Conservative bishops represent a 75 per cent of the Anglican Communion, the majority of Anglicans across the world. 

Archbishop Justin said in a press conference on Friday: "For too long the Anglican Communion has been driven by the views of the West. 

"We often feel that our voice is not listened to, or respected. We invite each primate and bishop to sign up to our resolution, and then with the majority of the Communion in favour, for the Instruments of the Anglican Communion to find ways to put faith and order back at the heart of what the Archbishop of Canterbury describes as 'walking together'."

At least than 200 bishops are expected to sign in support the new “Lambeth Resolution”.
