Officers said a post-mortem examination on Anne Dunkley, 67, found she had sustained multiple injuries.
Her death continues to be investigated and a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Detectives were called to Elmdon Road, Marston Green, at 1.20 on Friday afternoon by a member of the public reporting a disturbance.
Officers also found a man, 38, with facial injuries, who has since been released from hospital.
Detective Inspector Martin Slevin from West Midlands Police CID said: "Enquiries are on-going into what happened in Elmdon Road. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
St Leonard's Church, where Mrs Dunkley had been a churchwarden for seven years, said it would be praying for the woman.
In a statement it said: "We hold in our thoughts and prayers the family, friends and community who grieve the loss of Anne Dunkley.
"Anne contributed so much to St. Leonard's, scouts, guides, the Parish Hall, as a school governor and to the community of Marston Green.
"Most of all to her family. Words cannot express our sadness. We pledge we will do all we can to support the very many who mourn.
"We pray that all who grieve will be held in God's loving arms. May Anne rest in peace and grant her life eternal. Amen"
