Jayne Hickey, 29, and her son Christian were seriously injured after two gunmen opened fire at their home in Salford, Greater Manchester, on Monday night.
Debra Green from Redeeming our Communities, a charity that works to create strategic partnerships between statutory agencies, voluntary groups and churches, told Premier that Churches are helping: "All of our projects have a partner church.
"Many churches are doing their fair share in terms of mentoring young people, offering youth clubs as diversionary activities, looking at the whole area of restorative justice."
Police think that the shooting was targeted and part of a dispute between rival gangs.
Detectives are linking it to the gangland murder of Paul Massey earlier in the year.
Greater Manchester Police Deputy Chief Constable, Ian Hopkins, said it was "sickening and cowardly."
Debra Green said that people need to: "Pray that people are not intimidated by these acts of violence, but can definitely rise up and meet the community needs.
"Pray that the churches are able again not to be intimidated, but to try to come forward with positive solutions.
"I think that's the only way forward for God to lead us and guide us into the new ideas, innovative ideas that can address some of these issues."
