The "Good Grief - The Loneliness of Bereavement" event at Leominster Priory is being held by Church of England's Diocese of Hereford, academics and local hospice staff.
Christine Pepler from Hereford Diocese said: "We believe this Conference is a 'first' in inviting anyone interested to come along; this is not just about experts.
"We are very fortunate to have the speakers to give us the information we need, so after lunch we will break into workshops, covering all aspects of bereavement.
"The aim is to produce some practical ideas that can be taken forward from the conference."
Chaired by the Dean of Hereford Michael Tavinor, "Good Grief" will feature speeches from Professor of End of Life Care at Bradford University Allan Kellehear and the University of Winchester's Dr Christina Welch.
Mary Taylor from St Michael's Hospice in Bartestree, said: "Losing someone you love is very hard for anyone and for many it is the first time in their lives they are not able to cope and are on their own.
"Yet there is clear evidence, that the right support at this time can prevent future mental ill-health. And the fact is we are all likely to be bereaved at some point in our lives."
The conference will offer workshops on spiritual support, different religions, supporting children through bereavement, giving practical support and answering the question, 'What can I say?'
