Church funeral for US shooting victim

WORD Ministries Christian Centre held a two-hour service for the father of four whose death has sparked outrage across America.

The black man was shot several times in the back as he ran away from a police officer during a routine traffic stop.

A white police officer, Michael Slager, has been arrested and charged with murder.

Revd George Hamilton said Mr Scott's death "was an act motivated by overt racism," and the person responsible was "a disgrace" to his occupation.

"We will not indict the entire law enforcement community for the act of one racist," the minister said.

A friend of Mr Scott, Tyrone Johnson, said: "You know, Walter touched a lot of people. He was very friendly with everyone. I don't think he ever met an enemy. So, there's a lot of people out here, just paying their respects to him and his legacy."
