Christians are being encouraged to take part in #GivingTuesday after the shopping madness of 'Black Friday' and 'Cyber Monday'.
The Church of England and a number of Christian charities have signed up to #GivingTuesday, an international movement asking people to give their time, money or voice to charity on one day.
Daniel Jones from the Christian charity Stewardship, explained on Premier's News Hour how #GivingTuesday arrived in the UK, he said:"Three years ago there was some organisations in the United States who saw 'Black Friday' and 'Cyber Monday'; two things which no doubt we've become familiar with over the last few days, and they thought wouldn't it be great if we had a day that was about giving and not getting."
Stewardship, Christian Aid, Church Housing Trust, Glasgow City Mission and Through the Roof have all pledged to support the campaign in some way to help boost donations and awareness of the importance of giving during the festive season.
Christians are being asked to give something back after the shopping deals over the weekend.
The campaign was launched in the US in 2012 by 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, and was made a success with the support from business partners such as Google and Facebook.
It has since become a global movement, with Canada, Mexico, Israel, Australia, Singapore and Latin America all taking part in 2013.
Daniel Jones from Stewardship said: "We're delighted to be part of the #GivingTuesday movement.
"#GivingTuesday is a brilliant opportunity for Christian charities, churches and voluntary groups to reach out to those in faith communities and to encourage and inspire even greater acts of generosity.
"We hope our resources will make it easier for churches and individuals to get involved and show Christ's love through acts of generosity on the day."
