The post was created after Christians in Politics noted high levels of engagement in their 2015 and 2017 'Show Up' campaigns which aimed to encourage Christians to engage with the General Elections.
Flannagan, as well as being the former Director of Christians on the Left, is a singer-songwriter from Ireland whose songs often have a campaigning tone and have been used by charities including Christian Aid.
In a statement, he said of his appointment: "I am unashamedly thrilled to be given the opportunity to provide leadership for Christians in Politics as we try to reach places and people who have not yet heard our message but who could have so much to offer the political world".
Gary Streeter, the Conservative MP for South West Devon said: "Andy's passion, biblical insight and story-telling ability will convince even the most sceptical that they could and should be more than mere commentators on politics".
