Doug Wilson’s publishing company fails in $10M bid for Christianity Today

by Mitti Hicks

Christianity Today (CT) magazine has rejected a $10 million buy-out offer from the publishing company, Canon Press, founded by prominent Christian nationalist, Pastor Doug Wilson.

The Daily Wire reporter Megan Basham first posted news of the offer on Sept. 29 on X. In the letter with the subject, “Proposal to Purchase Assets – Christianity Today International,” the letter says that Charlie Kirk, the controversial right-wing political activist who was assassinated in September, is what is motivating Canon Press to purchase.

“Charlie Kirk carried the torch of Christianity Today’s founder, Billy Graham, as a global evangelist, and it is in his legacy that we see the future of Christianity Today,” the letter states.

The letter continues that Canon Press could grow the publication to “reach a larger audience,” which it says would ultimately increase impact and preserve Graham’s legacy, who died in 2018 at the age of 99.

As Premier Christian News previously reported, Wilson has built an international network of churches since the 1990s under the Congregation of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) banner. CREC now has more than 150 congregations across four continents. Wilson has also founded educational institutions, authored books, and cultivated a significant online following.

By his own account, Wilson believes American society — including its government — should be governed by a conservative interpretation of biblical law. He has also expressed patriarchal views on gender.

In a statement to The Roys Report, CT Interim President and CEO Thomas Addington stated: “We recently received an unsolicited offer by a third party to purchase Christianity Today. Christianity Today is not for sale and has never been for sale.”

CT was founded in 1956. The nonprofit global media ministry says it engages more than 4.5 million Christian leaders each month.
