Christian woman fired for refusing to buy Christmas gift for non-believing colleague

by Heather Preston

A devout Christian was allegedly fired from her job after refusing to buy a secret Santa gift for a co-worker.

According to Reddit, the woman had chosen not to participate in buying a Christmas gift for a male colleague after he told her he did not celebrate Christmas.

The man had taken to the online platform anonymously to share his story.

He explained that he had joined an optional Christmas gift exchange organised by his company only to not receive a present.

He later learned that the woman who he had been allocated to had chosen not to get him anything and accused him of "profiting from people's generosity".

It came following a discussion they had about faith in which she asked if he would be attending a Christmas service.

He said: "I said no. She asked why and I told her that I'm actually ex-Christian, so I don't go to church."

He claims she began to "act weird" following this conversation and condemned him for joining the secret Santa and "profiting off other people's generosity in the celebration of Christ's birth."
After he did not receive a gift, he said he was "shocked" to hear that she didn't feel there was any need to get him something as he didn't believe in Christmas.

The incident was reported to a supervisor, after which the woman was fired from her position.

The man's supervisor allegedly noted similar patterns of behaviour from the woman to other members of staff.

His post read: "I feel bad because I didn't care about getting a present that much & I don't think it's something that warrants getting someone fired."
