Christian woman ends hunger strike in Iran prison

by Antony Bushfield

Maryam Naghash Zargaran ended her protest after finally being granted access to doctors.

She had wanted to see medical professionals for long standing health problems but the prosecutor's office had refused to allow her to leave prison.

She is serving a four year sentence, which began in July 2013, for her work on an orphanage with former Christian prisoner Saeed Abedini. She was charged with "acting against national security".

Prison doctors saw the woman at the end of July and confirmed she was suffering multiple debilitating illness, including, possibly the onset of Multiple Sclerosis.

Maryam is demanding compassionate release because of her illness but her request has been refused by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS).

Christians are being encouraged to pray for her.

The charity Middle East Concern says we should pray that "Maryam will know God's encouragement, recovery and strengthening".
