MPs have voted to keep DIY 'at home' abortions permanent in England.

During a parliament this week, MPs voted, by a narrow margin, in favour of an amendment to the Health and Care Bill.

This has now overturned the Government's decision last month to end the temporary provision that has allowed abortions to take place outside of clinical settings, by sending two termination pills in the post to women who wish to take them.

Madeline Page, a spokesperson for Right to Life UK told Premier at least 10,000 women have needed hospitalisation so far as a result of the practice:

"I am deeply heartbroken by the result and a bit surprised; I think I was expecting that it wouldn't have passed. 

"But just really, really sad to look now at a future that I think has very few safeguards for women and their children," Page said.

She continued: "It's going to continue as it has over the last two years through the pandemic, where they're not seeing face to face, there's no in person consultation." 
"And there have been some cases to the gestation limit can be hard to determine just through a phone call. So there have been situations where people have been beyond that ten week gestation, and had a much later abortion, which has even more severe health complications."

Page would like people to pray for women across England as this rule comes into effect. 
She shared a story which she described as "heart breaking", she said: "There's a girl called Savannah and perhaps we can refer to Savannah as it's not her real name. She received the abortion pills far beyond that tem week gestational limit. 

"So she had a phone call with a B pass clinic and over the phone, they thought that she was eight weeks pregnant, so she went to get the pills from them, she wasn't scanned or examined, she just collected them and then took them at home and said she was experiencing really, really bad pain. 

"Her boyfriend had to call an ambulance because he said as she was pushing, he could see feet. The baby was actually born with a heartbeat and they were both taken into hospital. 

"There she was found to be 20 to 21 weeks pregnant, which is obviously more than double that the ten week limit that we're supposed to have for these home abortions, and obviously way more than double the eight weeks that be passed.

"So obviously she was left really traumatised, but she also said that had she known [or] had her gestation been accurately determined- she said she would have had him. She would have had her baby boy, so my heart breaks her and for many other girls and women who find themselves in that situation."
