Speaking to Premier, he said: "I just pray that those people are able to find new employment, I hope that they finish well with their current employment.
"What we don't need is getting into debt in between jobs... so I really pray that these people can transition from this current role into a new role."
Grant has made The Entertainer boldly Christian by remaining closed on Sundays so staff can see their families. The toy chain also has Christian displays in its windows at Christmas.
Grant described how the UK's high street habits have changed: "We used to go to a large grocer once a week, fill up a great big trolley full of stuff and bring a massive amount home - but I think that's not happening so much now - I think we're buying little, more often. And I think that's probably the same with toys - I think people are not necessarily driving out of town to buy toys as they were in the 80s when Toys R Us first came to the UK... they're buying more conveniently."
Speaking of the 5,5000 risks to job between Toys R Us and Maplin, Grant explained: "I think people are the greatest casualty in all of this.
"A business goes down and that's a business but behind the business they are the people. So Toys R Us' announcements today I think it's 3000 people roughly are going to lose their jobs - and that's just a statistic...but those are 3000 real people, really paying their monthly bills, really trying to feed their families. So I think this is a really critical time for those people."
The high street has seen a decrease in profits as well as a move to online shopping.
He said: "It's really important if we value the high street, that we also spend our money on the high street. That's not suggesting that we never buy anything online but we need to get the balance right."
