Christian based Marriage Care says the organisation is expecting an increase in volume of calls but says it's healthy for couples to seek help.
The first Friday after the festive period traditionally sees a 30 per cent spike in people seeking advice on how to end their marriage.
Many put it down to the amount of time people spend together over Christmas and New Year.
Bridie Collins is Director of Relationship Education and Support for Marriage Care.
Speaking to Premier she said: "Tensions surface when people have time together, when they're out of their normal routine.
"I don't think Christmas in itself causes the problems, the tensions are already there.
"It's very positive when people decide to make changes, they may say this isn't working very well, can we go and get some help?
"It's sadder when people decide to walk away."
