Christian group: Migrants need "best humanitarian aid possible"

by Hannah Tooley

The Prime Minister David Cameron said that sniffer dogs will be sent to Calais to help deal with the migrant crisis.

Ben Bano provides migrants with aid on the British side of the Chanel, he was speaking after David Cameron added that he Ministry of Defence is also looking at moving lorries parked on the M20 motorway in Kent to military land to ease traffic congestion and the Prime Minister has promised more sniffer dogs and fences to France.

He told Premier's News Hour: "The situation is really quite confused and I think it's also prone to exaggeration.

"We think there's something like 3,000 migrants in Calais - they're currently living in an area called 'The Jungle'."

He added that of the migrants: "We think that there's probably about 150 - 200, perhaps a few more who're actively trying to get into the tunnel and do the kind of things we're seeing in our media every day."

Commenting on David Cameron's use of the word 'swarm' to describe migrants, he said: "We are talking about real people, people who have often fled from danger, they've often been traumatised by some of the things they've witnessed in some of the war torn countries today and clearly I think we've got to go much further than just providing fencing.

"We've got to collaborate with the French in trying to provide the best humanitarian aid possible."
