A convicted murderer who reportedly found faith while on death row, was executed by firing squad in South Carolina, becoming the first US inmate in 15 years to die by this method.
In his final words, he made a powerful plea against capital punishment, stating, “Man has no right to kill. Vengeance belongs to the Lord alone.”
Brad Sigmon, aed 67, was sentenced to death for the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s parents, David and Gladys Larke, 23 years ago.
However, in his later years, he is said to have experienced a religious transformation, dedicating much of his time to reading the Bible.
Those who knew him in prison shared that he had become deeply committed to his Christian faith.
In his last conversation with his brother, Sigmon expressed peace and acceptance, saying he was “ready to meet God.”
In a press conference, witnesses described his final moments as quiet and composed.
Outside the execution chamber, protesters gathered, calling for an end to the death penalty, a cause that Sigmon himself echoed in his final statement.
“It is unfathomable that, in 2025, South Carolina would execute one of its citizens in this bloody spectacle,” he said through his lawyer.
