He's following in the footsteps of his brother Stephen, who took part in the programme in 2010, becoming the fourth person to be evicted.
Daniel, who's known for his performances in US TV shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street, has travelled from the USA for the show and is no stranger to reality programmes after previously taking part in the US version of I'm a Celebrity.
His career has been marred by a much publicised drug addiction which led to a number of arrests.
While much less outspoken on his faith than brother Stephen, Daniel is quoted by creators.com as saying: "I'm a born-again Christian, and my relationship was so hypocritical, on my knees praying for help from God, then going and doing cocaine the next day.
"I started feeling bad about the duality of wanting to be one with God, and be a soldier for God, then turning around and absolutely pissing away all the gifts that God has given me.
"They talk about these moments of clarity and epiphany? I said to myself, 'This isn't living. This is dying,' and I decided to pony up and be a man and a father and I did."
Speaking about his expectations of being in the Big Brother house, he said: "I let my family know that under no circumstances would I share my bed with another person, particularly another woman.
"I would pick up my bag and leave before I would disrespect my wife like that. My wife wouldn't be comfortable with me sitting talking to a woman with her top off."
Other contestants taking part include TV presenter Gail Porter, Loose Women panellist Sherrie Hewson and former pop star Natasha Hamilton.
