The actors announced their break-up on social media on Sunday night, writing that they tried to make their marriage work for a long time and are disappointed they could not succeed.
Pratt, who has shared with magazines the story of how he became a Christian shortly before his big-break, and stars in the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, married Faris, who appears in the US TV show Mom, in 2009.
A statement from the couple on Pratt's Facebook page said: "Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed.
"Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
Twitter users took to the social media site to share their reaction to the break-up.

Last month, Faris spoke out about how "weird" she found it when people held the couple as an example when it came to romance.
She told in her interview with Bustle: "I love being in love, and I love that our relationship inspires people
"And Chris and I laugh all the time - we have this amazing inside joke about how we're just a couple of hometown kids who sort of stumbled into this weirdness, and I love that we can look at each other and be like, 'ah, yup, this is crazy'."
