Television personality Ant Middleton has told the Reform UK party conference that Britain is “built on the values of Christianity.”
After being introduced by a former fellow TV personality David Bull – who identifies as Christian – he told the audience in Birmingham that he would address the needs of the nation like a contestant on his reality show.
“I do a TV show called SAS Who Dares Wins, and I strip them down so they have an identity, and build them back up.
“How do I do that? What I do with individuals, I bring them into a camp. I close the border… and who can come in? Those that benefit the individuals, i.e.: countrymen and women.”
Rapturous applause from the crowd ensued, to which Middleton continued: “We haven’t got a secure camp because we don’t know who’s coming in. They’re certainly not benefitting the environment, they’re certainly not adhering to the rules and regulations and they’re certainly not benefitting us as a nation.
“Now, interpret that as you will, let’s say that’s the border, I don’t want to get in too much trouble and be cancelled again.”
Speaking on the identity of the country, he said: “British history, this country, is born on the values of Christianity.
“Those values have worked for centuries and centuries to get us to where we are today.”
Three years ago, Channel 4 stopped working with Middleton on the basis of his “personal conduct”.
He drew criticism in 2020 for his views on the Black Lives Matter movement and Covid-19.
Middleton said it was time for him to “move on” from the programme.
