Peter and Laura Toganivalu have announced they're launching a new church in Sydney – the city which is home to Hillsong, the church founded by her father Brian Houston.

The couple, who had previously led Hillsong's youth ministry, resigned from their roles following the lead of Brian who stepped down after facing a number of misconduct allegations.

Now, speaking on Instagram the Toganivalus have confirmed plans for a new church.

Announcing the news while recognising their history within Hillsong, Peter said: "In some ways, the way I've described it, it's like we've grown up in this incredible household.

"And then it's kind of like, we're ready to step out. We've just turned 18, and we're about to leave home, just finished high school.

"That's what it felt like - it's like we are little birds in a nest and we're about to spread our wings."

Sharing their vision for the church, Laura said: "There are so many people who are yet to hear, who are yet to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

"Sometimes as the Church, you know, globally, we can get so distracted but that's the commission you know, that's our assignment here on Earth: to tell the world about Jesus and I'm so looking forward to doing that."

Responding to their post on Instagram, Brian Houston wrote: "I'm in. See you there!"

Houston was cleared last month of covering up the sexual abuse carried out by his father Frank.

He claims the trial against him has felt like persecution. He's fully stepped back from Hillsong and is yet to confirm his next plans for ministry.
