A man has been arrested after the body of a woman was found at Norwich Cathedral on Sunday night.

At 11:50pm Norfolk police were called to the Cathedral after the woman, who was in her late 30s was found unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics attempted to treat her.

Her death is being treated as unexplained and police are investigating.

She was found in The Close, the acres of greenery surrounding the Cathedral, and the area has been sealed off while officers continue to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody at Aylsham Police Investigation Centre, where he will be questioned.

The Dean of  Norwich, The Very Rev Jane Hedges said: “This is a police matter and we will not be making any comment regarding the incident at this time. We will, however, be holding all those involved in our prayers.”
