Kanye West's latest album continues the rapper's journey into Christian themes after surprising the world in 2019 with his worship album Jesus is King.
West released his tenth album, Donda, on Thursday night after a unique listening event in Atlanta, GA.
While Donda is not a direct worship album like Jesus is King, West's relationship with God saturates the album. Songs like Praise God, Keep My Spirit Alive, and I Know God Breathed On This contains many religious themes. In Praise God, Kanye notes how some people "treat your lord and savior like rentals insurance, you know what I mean?" West also recognizes how God can intervene in the world and his own life, offering his divine touch in select matters, proclaiming that "He's done miracles on me."
Faith is not the only theme in Donda. At the center of this album is an apparent love and admiration for West's mother. The 58-year-old woman's voice saturates nearly every track, often commending her son for his peculiar ways.
Donda West was an English teacher when she passed away in 2007 after complications with plastic surgery. The death was particularly tragic for West, as he often described his mother as his "everything."
The album is officially available for release as of July 23rd.
