Bakers serve up fruit cake village in aid of church roof revamp

The edible replica of Youlgrave - which features models of All Saints' Church, the butchers and the war memorial - took 35 cakes to produce.

Rev Louise Petheram from All Saints' said: "We feel very blessed at All Saints' to belong to a church that feels so much part of the village community."

The idea for the fundraiser came from church member of keen baker, Lynn Nolan, who was joined by other villagers in collecting donated ingredients and baking the sponges.

Speaking on the project, which involved 400 hours of icing cakes, Rev Petheram went on to say: "It has become a wonderful community project."

The cake village is on display at All Saints' until Wednesday 14th December when three cakes will be given away, while the remaining ones will be auctioned off to help fund the roof restoration.

Describing the display as "stunning" and "very life-like", Rev Peterham also told Premier: "We've had people from all over the country coming to see it; they've been absolutely delighted."
